Looking for a new challenge and a one-of-a-kind hunting adventure? Why not test your skills hunting the elusive Merriam Turkey. The Merriam Turkey is among the largest game birds in in the United States. Although these big birds were almost hunted to extinction for food in the 1800’s they have been successfully re-introduced in suitable habitat such as the high country of New Mexico.
The wild country around the Timbers at Chama is ideal habitat for these birds, offering plenty of forage, good cover and freshwater lakes and streams. These are wary birds, and it takes both skill and local knowledge to find and bag your trophy.
The Timbers at Chama offers two and one-half day, three night private hunts in the latter part of April. Our Merriam Turkey Hunts include the services of a skilled hunting guide with extensive local knowledge, transportation to and from the hunt site and delivery of your Merriam Turkey trophy to a local taxidermist game processor. Accommodations include three nights in the luxurious Timbers Lodge as well as three hearty meals a day. At the Timbers we strive to make every hunt unique and will work with you to plan meals and activities to your liking.
