Hunting Timbers Style
The Timbers New Mexico Elk Hunts
The Timbers at Chama dons its camouflage gear from mid-September to December with a brief return in the spring, welcoming hunters to one of the best elk habitats in the Rocky Mountains — New Mexico’s famous Unit 4. Whether you prefer the Rocky Mountain bull elk, trophy mule Deer or a the elusive Merriam turkey, the Timbers at Chama provides some of the finest hunting in New Mexico. Every year we welcome back many long-time hunting friends.
This year (2019) we are taking a break from the hunt.
Guides take a select group of hunters to harvest the largest bull elk and only a few of the prized Chama Valley Deer each year. We practice low-impact to help preserve this outstanding elk, deer and turkey hunting for generations to come. And, we support those organizations working on behalf of all hunters. Be sure to go over your gear carefully before travelling for your hunt.
Harvested game is retrieved and delivered to a local processor in Chama, New Mexico.

BULL ELK RIFLE HUNTING
The most popular hunt at the Timbers at Chama is for New Mexico’s huge bull elk. With exclusive hunting rights on several private ranches totaling some 10,000 acres, the Timbers guides typically always have elk located. With most of their hunting properties holding resident herds we spend more time hunting than we do looking for elk. Our style of hunting along with the regulation of transferable tags allows us to hunt our properties in a manner that we do not over pressure our herds. All land is private and includes guaranteed landowner tags. No Draw! No Crowds! No sharing the mountain with hoards of Elk hunters in orange.
These are free-roaming elk hunts with an excellent success rate. The local New Mexico elk herd is thriving, with hundreds of healthy trophies. Selective hunting and sound wildlife management improves the elk population each year. Recently we added additional private land rights to make these exciting hunts available to more elk hunters.
