Activities at the Timbers
Enjoy the southern San Juan Mountains mounted on one of the Timbers’ well-trained horses. Both novice and advanced riders will enjoy our guided tour into the breathtaking scenery of the backcountry. (Horseback riding is available only to those age 12 and older.)
Your bikes or ours, the Timbers at Chama offers miles of trails and off-road adventure in nearby National Forests for all levels of mountain bike enthusiasts.
The Timbers at Chama offers more than 400 acres of private trails and open, cross-country exploration. Nearby, you’ll find some of the most untrammeled and pristine hiking in North America, including the spectacular South San Juan Wilderness, the Santa Fe National Forest and millions of acres of public lands suitable for any level of experience, fitness and expertise.
Bird & Wildlife Viewing
Few places in North America offer the rich diversity of wildlife found at the Timbers at Chama. Birders will find bald eagles, red-tail hawks, ospreys and other raptors along with scores of different songbirds and several species of hummingbirds.
Resident mammals include elk, mule deer, brown bear, fox, coyote, ringtails, prairie dogs, cougar, bobcat, lynx and badger — to name but a few.
All-terrain vehicles offer a less demanding way to enjoy the outdoors. Our guides can take you to seldom-seen mountain vistas.
Cross-country devotees have many options at the Timbers. The rolling, hilly terrain is well-suited for on-property exploration. For a more challenging expedition, the nearby National Forests and Sargent Wildlife area offer groomed trails suitable for novice to expert.
Enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of the Timbers reading on the deck, playing horseshoes, exploring the property, star gazing or watching the best sunrise and sunset in nature.
